This workshop will explore how German-language graphic novels can be used to raise learner awareness and foster empathy. Stories told through images and text challenge readers to consider how visual and narrative elements complement each other. Graphic novels also provide an opportunity to approach sensitive topics, and this workshop will focus on books dealing with themes such as mental health and wellbeing, identity, disability, and empowerment. Participants will learn about textual and visual elements of graphic novels and discover how learners can reflect on their own identity and develop empathy for the fictional characters they encounter in graphic novels.
