Agency in the classroom supports student voice, choice, and ownership. The WL classroom is the perfect place for this because our discipline gives wide breadth of concepts to dive into. This workshop will address a variety of strategies for the Novice/Intermediate level classrooms to teach the skills necessary to scaffold student agency. First, we will define agency and what developmentally appropriate agency looks like. Then, we will explore strategies to incorporate agency. Finally, participants will collaborate to apply their learning to their classroom. This session meets WI standards 7 and 8 by shifting learning and assessment to co-construction with students.
